Keep your Aussie Cattle Dog Safe

For thousands of years dogs have been a man’s best friend and protector.  It is really your responsibility now to keep your Aussie cattle dog safe and well fed in return. It doesn’t take a lot of work to create a safe place for your dog or puppy at home. It will save you in veterinary fees too.

Dogs are inquisitive, especially puppies so they will stick their noses into all sorts of nooks and crannies.  Cattle dogs sniff things out then they will mouth them to check them out again. They love to explore and will walk through the middle of your garden and dig into places that may not be safe. They love to pull on anything that is lying loosely and chew on things that are left around.

So, saying that you should make sure the following items are out of reach of your dog or puppy:

Rubber bands
Candles
Chemicals
Mouse traps
Christmas decorations
Any valuable items
Plastic bags
Medicines
Toxic food for dogs eg chocolate
Electrical cords

These are items mainly inside the house but you should also consider the outside areas like the garden as there are many toxic plants and spiky dangerous shrubs too.

Consider removing the following:

English Ivy
Oleander
Azaleas
Cactus
Spiky palms
Elephant ear
Wisteria
Holly Berry

This is not a complete list but you may recognize some of these in your garden already.

Make sure your Aussie cattle dog puppy can’t wander away from your property onto a street and traffic.  Dogs like to dog and some are great escape artists so regularly check for gaps in and under fences and gates.  Keep your doors closed and gates latched.

Your Aussie cattle dog needs a collar with an identification tags in the event they get separated from you.  Make sure your telephone number is on it.  Also with micro chipping these days your contact details are available to animal shelters and veterinarians.

Lastly, have a photo of your Aussie cattle dog in case they get lost as this really helps to identify them easier than just describing them.
